Louisville unveils new first class facilities as the Kentucky Derby 2005 draws near
Churchill Downs race track, home of the world-famous Kentucky Derby, is all set for the opening of the track's newly renovated six-floor Clubhouse in time for the 2005 Spring Meet on April 30.
The sweeping $121 million-renovated Clubhouse will be in use for the first time when the track launches its April 30-July 30 Spring Meet and will definitely get full highlight during the 131st Kentucky Derby, which will run on May 7.
Churchill Downs Inc. Vice President, Tom Schneider excitedly revealed that guests can expect an “A-plus, first class facility” comparable to a five-star treatment one can get from the Ritz-Carlton combined with the excitement and thrill of Disneyland.
Valuable prize packages awaits horse racing fans that will attend the Grand Opening Weekend. The prizes will be given away after each race on that day. Packages will include tickets to the 2005 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, 2005 Derby Press Party tickets, a Jockey Club Suite "Day at the Races", lunch for four people in the new Matt Winn dining room, "Millionaires Row" Sunday Brunch for a group of eight and many more.

Meanwhile, the Clubhouse isn’t the only part of Churchill Downs getting a face lift. The race track also recently launched its new and improved website, www.churchilldowns.com. The site provides better customer care, improved access, multimedia offering, and real time blow-by-blow race results.
After the Grand Opening Weekend, all-eyes will again be at Churchill Downs come first weekend of May as the top thoroughbred training and preparatory races culminates for the 131st Kentucky Derby, while top fillies and mares come together for its sister race the Kentucky Oaks (May 6th).
Kentucky Derby is the first leg for top 3-year-old contenders racing for the Triple Crown--- that rare feat of winning the Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.
Early this year, Churchill Downs announced that the Derby purse has been raised to $2 million (from $1 million), making it the country's richest race and ranks it among the nation's most lucrative races.
Churchill Downs is one of the world's most legendary race tracks. It has conducted thoroughbred racing and hosted America's greatest race, the Kentucky Derby, since its opening in 1875, and through the years it has been endearly called, “Home of the Kentucky Derby” and The Downs.
The Downs has also served as host to the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships a record five times. Churchill Downs will conduct the 131st running of the Kentucky Derby on May 7, 2005 . The track's 2005 Spring Meet will open on April 30, which will coincide with the unveiling of its newly renovated Clubhouse.
